RNE

Exchange students entering Brazil with a temporary study visa must register with the Brazilian Federal Police within 90 calendar days of their arrival in the country. Upon registration, they will receive their RNM (Registro Nacional Migratório) number, an essential document for legally residing in Brazil. This RNM number is also a prerequisite for other important services, such as applying for the Student Bus Card (Bilhete Único Estudante), which offers discounted transportation for students.

You can find detailed instructions on how to complete this process here:

How to Schedule Your Appointment

You have two options for scheduling your appointment at the Federal Police:

Option 1 – Schedule it yourself

Follow the step-by-step guide to book your appointment independently.

Option 2 – Request USP Central International Office assistance

If you would like USP Central International Office to schedule your Federal Police appointment, please inform us via email. Please note that USP has a limited number of weekly slots (10, considering the whole university), and appointments are typically scheduled for Fridays. With this option, you will not be able to choose your appointment date.

Important Note for Brazilian Nationals

If you are a Brazilian citizen, these procedures do not apply to you. Instead, you only need to obtain your CIN (Brazilian ID number), which can be requested at Poupatempo

What is a CPF?

The CPF (Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas) is the Brazilian individual taxpayer identification number, issued by the Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal).

It is a key personal document in Brazil and is often required for many everyday activities, such as: Opening a bank account, signing contracts (e.g., housing, phone plans), making online purchases. accessing public services

International students are strongly encouraged to obtain a CPF, especially if they plan to stay in Brazil for an extended period.

How to get you CPF?

CPF number yet, it can be requested online. Please follow the instructions below:

1. Access https://servicos.receita.fazenda.gov.br/Servicos/CPF/InscricaoCpfEstrang... fill out the registration form (only in Portuguese, unfortunately, although the website shows English and Spanish options that don’t exist).
