HISTORY

The Graduate Program in Controllership and Accounting (PPGCC) of the Department of Accounting and Actuarial Science (EAC) of the School of Economics, Business and Accounting of the University of São Paulo (FEA-USP) offers the MA and Ph.D. courses. It is the oldest graduate program in Accounting Sciences in Brazil. In 2013, the MA Program completed 43 years of activity and the Ph.D. Program, 35 years. It was awarded grade 6 in the CAPES triennial evaluation 2007-2009, the country’s highest grade, on a scale up to 7.

In line with the prominent role played by the USP Graduate Programs, the PPGCC aims to educate thinkers and leaders for the public and private sectors, the non-profit sector, and the academy. The PPGCC alumni should be able to influence the country’s course and improve the population’s quality of life.

The mission is to maintain its pioneering spirit, create and disseminate knowledge, and consolidate its leading position in Accounting Sciences in Brazil and abroad. The PPGCC should produce world-class research, through the work of its professors, students (particularly with their dissertations and theses), alumni, or through the interaction of the groups mentioned with researchers from institutions of national or international renown.

The solidarity and nucleation activities (e.g. PROCAD/Casadinho and DINTER) are equally significant, involving various regions in Brazil. These activities have a dual function. The first is to allow the improvement of other graduate programs in the country. The second is to educate and improve public accounting teaching and research staff, as well as provide the conditions so that new graduate programs can flourish and expand Accounting Sciences in Brazil.
